Halogenfree power cables jacketing is composed of thermoplastic or thermoset compounds that release very limited smoke and no halogen when exposed to sources of heat/flame. Namely, halogen-free cables do not produce a dangerous gas/acid combination or toxic smoke when exposed to flame.

These power cables are intended for installation in buildings with increased requirements for safety of people and property, in buildings where the rescue of people and animals is difficult (high buildings all types in which resides a number of people and animals), public, business and other objects for which if very important not to spread fire fast and endangering people with smoke.

By its function, we can divide them into two major categories. These are cables with improved characteristics in the event of fire and cables with improved characteristics in a fire as well as with function in flame (fire).

Halogenfree power cables were examined according to standards IEC 60332, 61034, 60754.

There are various types of halogenfree cables, but most used are N2XH and NHXHX.

Constructional elements of N2XH power cables are (Figure A):

Main difference between these two types (N2XH and NHXHX): when N2XH is under fire it is producing drops and NHXHX cable turns into ashes (there are no drops).

Halogenfree power cables with improved characteristics in a fire as well as with function in flame (fire) are labeled as NHXH Fe180 (E30, E60,E90).

Flame retardant halogen-free power cable NHXHX Fe180 E30-E60 are required for signalling a fire and clearing a building, where circuit integrity of cable installation must amount to at least 30 or 60 minutes. These include: fire alarm systems, systems for issuing alarms and instructions to visitors and staff, safety lighting and other emergency-circuit lighting, except for final circuits, personal elevator systems with evacuation circuit.

Flame retardant halogen-free power cable NHXHX Fe180 E90 are used for power supplies to cable installation sections required for direct firefighting, where circuit integrity of cable installation must amount to at least 90 minutes. These include: water pressurization systems for supply of extinguishing water, ventilation systems for safety staircases, elevator shafts and power rooms for fireman’s elevators, smoke and heat extraction systems and fireman’s lifts.
