The word “Festoon” means a string or chain of flowers, foliage, ribbon, etc., suspended in a curve between two points. As it is necessary to take proper care of flowers to keep then glowing and in that they remain in their optimal condition. In the same way, it is important to take care of electrical cables. Implementation of festoon cables have revolutionized the installation procedures of power and portable cabling.
Festoon cable is a flat portable cord designed for use in cranes and festoon cable systems. Most commonly available with a yellow or black jacket, other options include PVC or Neoprene for insulation and jacketing. See below for our PVC Festoon Cable offerings. If standard Festoon Cable specifications don’t meet your needs, Allied Wire can design a custom festoon cable that matches your company’s unique needs.
Festoon Cable has been specifically designed for use in festoon systems for power and control on cranes and hoists. Cables can also be used where space is at a premium or where extreme flexing is a requirement, with a recommended bend radius of three to five times cable diameter. Flat Festoon Cables are suitable for either indoor or outdoor applications operating at -40°C to 105°C.
Following are the two main types of flat festoon cables
- High-Temperature Flat Festoon Cable
High-Temperature Flat Festoon cable silicone jacket offers thermal resistance for use in high heat applications. Finely stranded nickel-plated copper conductors ensure a high degree of flexibility and heat resistance. The design of the cable allows it to lay flat in a crane or hoist application.
- Flat Festoon Cable
Flat Festoon Cable’s polyurethane jacket offers defence against cutting, abrasion, oil and chemicals; and finely stranded tinned conductors ensure a high degree of flexibility and an extended flex life. The flat design of the cable allows it to lay flat in a crane or hoist application and avoid problems that may arise when using other types of cable.
