A Bayonet style cable connector is a type of radio frequency (RF) connector used with coaxial cables. It is mostly used in TV, Radio, test instruments and video signals. BNC connectors are commonly designed to operate up to 3 GHz at 75 Ohm and voltages below 500V.
BNC connector allows swift and easy connect and disconnect with a positive locking mechanism. Coupling is achieved with just a quarter turn of the coupling nut. With a classic, dependable design, BNCs are suited to accommodate a large variety of RG and industry standard cables, in a variety of termination styles.
BNC connectors are miniature, lightweight and reliable and are applicable to both 50 ohm and 75 ohm impedance to match customer’s requirement. In addition to that they are used in commercial, industrial and military, aerospace and spaceflight applications. There are several different types of BNC connectors, each one having its own method of attachment. The different BNC connectors include the “BNC Crimp on connector”, the “BNC twist on connector” and the “BNC compression connector”.
BNC Crimp on connector is available in both 2 piece and 3 piece style. Coaxial cable stripper and coaxial crimping tools are needed to connect a BNC crimp on connector with the coax cable.
BNC twist on connector is convenient in that it needs no additional tools in order to be attached to the coaxial cable, except for a cable stripper. Once the cable is stripped, the rest of the work is done by hand.
BNC compression connector comes in the once piece style or the F connector style. To install the once piece BNC compression connector, you’ll need a stripper and a compression tool.
BNC connectors of type F are used in Radio Frequency applications of coax cables. For remote antenna feeds in Global Positioning Systems and interconnection applications of telecommunication sector like Cell towers and communication equipment uses type N connectors of BNC. WAN and LAN uses mostly BNC interface connector types.
